NREG COLLEGE WINS GRANT FOR CLIMATE-SMART ENERGY INTERVENTION
NReg College, together with local energy cooperatives and NGOs, won a major climate-smart energy grant from an international development fund. The grant will enable NReg College to expand its growing energy and sustainability research unit, with specialists in renewable energy, clean cookstoves, biomass gasification, biogas and energy-efficient practices. Using this support, NReg College will improve livelihoods in remote farming communities by establishing renewable-energy powered agro-processing — providing electricity via a biomass gasifier to power processing machinery and lighting in off-grid communities.
NREG COLLEGE TRAINS RURAL COMMUNITIES IN CLIMATE-SMART AGRICULTURE
In March 2024, NReg College was commissioned by a national development agency to deliver training in Climate Smart Agriculture to five rural farming communities across Eastern and Volta Regions. Led by lecturers Dr. Ama Serwaa-Mensah and Mr. Daniel K. Adu, the training covered climate change awareness, adaptation and mitigation practices, sustainable soil and water management, and resilient cropping systems. Target communities included Adjeman, Kpotame, and Bote Farms in the Eastern Region, as well as Ada-Kwame and Dzodze in the Volta Region. Farmers received seeds, tools, and ongoing advisory support — and expressed strong gratitude for the enhanced farming skills and improved resilience gained.
NREG COLLEGE LAUNCHES AGRO-PROCESSING BUSINESS INCUBATION HUB WITH GREEN MARKET
NReg College successfully secured a grant from an international donor to establish an Agro-processing Business Incubation Hub. The hub will offer training and practical experience to students and local farmers in value-added processing of agricultural produce. Planned business units include: palm oil processing, cassava processing, moringa processing, and groundnut processing. As part of the initiative, NReg College will also create a Green Organic Market to provide fresh and processed organic foods to communities — enhancing access to nutritious produce in nearby towns and supporting local food-and-nutrition security.
NREG COLLEGE EQUIPS VOLUNTEERS WITH ORGANIC VEGETABLE FARMING SKILLS
In 2022, as part of a partnership with a national volunteer corps, NReg College trained 35 volunteers in organic vegetable cultivation and nursery management. The one-week intensive training, held on the NReg campus, covered nursery establishment, soil fertility management, mulching, crop rotation, pest control without chemicals, and sustainable water use. At the conclusion, the volunteers committed to establishing demonstration organic gardens in their assigned communities — to promote food security and sustainable farming practices at grassroots.
NREG COLLEGE STRENGTHENS TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING CAPACITY FOR VALUE-CHAIN PROGRAMMES
With support from an international development agency, NReg College enhanced its capacity to deliver competency-based technical and vocational training (CBT) in crop value-chains — notably pineapple and citrus. A rigorous internal verification system for the new CBT programmes was established to ensure high quality of training delivery: lesson planning, learning outcome assessments, practical demonstrations, internal verification, and external verification before certification. Around 12 faculty and technical staff were trained in CBT methodology and assessment. The improved capacity aims to ensure that graduates acquire practical, workplace-ready skills, enhancing their employability in agro-industry and sustainable agriculture sectors.

NREG COLLEGE HOSTS NATIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL GOVERNANCE
In September 2025, NReg College organized the “Youth Dialogue on Natural Resources and Environmental Governance,” bringing together over 150 young leaders from across Ghana. Speakers included environmental policy experts, community leaders, and alumni. Themes covered included climate resilience, sustainable land use, youth inclusion in resource governance, and community-level environmental stewardship. The conference concluded with a youth-driven roadmap for local-level advocacy and community-led environmental monitoring.
NREG COLLEGE INITIATES RESEARCH PROJECT ON WATERSHED MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY WATER SECURITY
A new research team at NReg College, led by Prof. Lydia Mensah-Boateng and Dr. Samuel Ofori, started a watershed management project in the Volta Basin region. The study aims to assess water quality, soil erosion, deforestation impacts, and propose community-based strategies for sustainable water and land management. The project will involve field surveys, GIS mapping, and collaboration with local communities — and is expected to inform future water-resource policy recommendations in Ghana.
NREG COLLEGE LAUNCHES POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME IN CLIMATE CHANGE & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Responding to growing demand, NReg College has launched a new Master’s degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Development. The programme will blend science, policy, and governance courses — preparing graduates to work in climate-policy research, environmental planning, sustainable development agencies, and consultancy. The curriculum includes courses on climate adaptation, sustainable land use, environmental economics, policy analysis, and research methods.
NREG COLLEGE PARTNERS WITH LOCAL FORESTRY AGENCIES FOR BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION INITIATIVE
In November 2025, NReg College signed a collaboration agreement with regional forestry agencies to implement a biodiversity conservation programme in degraded forest reserves. The initiative will engage students and local communities in reforestation, species surveys, habitat restoration, and community education on sustainable forest use. It will also provide hands-on research and internship opportunities in forest ecology and conservation for NReg students.
NREG COLLEGE ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON SUSTAINABLE MINING AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT
NReg College recently hosted a three-day workshop on Sustainable Mining Practices and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for students, mining-sector stakeholders, and environmental NGOs. Facilitated by environmental law and geology experts, the workshop covered regulatory frameworks, best practices in waste management, water and soil protection, community engagement, and remediation techniques. Participants engaged in mock EIA exercises and scenario-based planning — aiming to bridge academic research, policy, and industry practice for responsible resource extraction.
